Summer Camp

SLI campers enjoying the lakeside.

Summer Camp is a very special event for many clients due to the fact that their limited income does not allow for any type of vacation and many have never taken a vacation.

Individuals with disabilities ask for so is hard when a client wants to go on vacation and we have to explain he/she cannot afford it.

We started out with 15 participants and now we have approximately 30 clients attending every year. We formed a partnership with the Jayhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America for our camp. The facilities are wheelchair accessible and offer a variety of new experiences.

Campers participate in activities which many have never experienced such as archery, rock wall climbing, canoeing, paddle boats, riding a zip-line, leather making, pottery, fishing, swimming and a variety of others. The clients were in a dream world and very excited and grateful to have a “vacation” that includes so many new experiences.

We have a very limited budget and sponsor many of the campers but in order to continue this endeavor, we need community support. Please consider sponsoring a camper or campers for the SLI Summer Camp. The cost per camper is $490 which includes transportation, meals, facility rental, activities and staffing costs for five days and four nights of camp. Click here to donate now.
