Karen Streeter graduated from John Brown University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  She brings 25 years of organizational leadership, fundraising, and marketing experience with social service organizations in Kansas City and Tulsa.  Under her leadership, Sheffield Place became the first homeless shelter in the nation to provide two of the three top therapeutic interventions for traumatized children. As a result, Sheffield Place was recognized as a best practice by the National Center for Family Homelessness and Karen was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Campaign to End Child Homelessness.

Karen is thrilled to serve the clients and mission of SLI for several reasons.  First, Karen is passionate about storytelling and relationship building. She understands that success in anything is built upon relationships.  Second, SLI brings Karen back home to Topeka and her family.  Finally, Karen’s life has been touched by the presence of two people with diverse abilities.  Both experiences have taught Karen that everyone deserves to not only be seen but to be a part of our community.
